Cold Plunges
Regular water care and filtration are essential for keeping your cold plunge clean and operating efficiently. Maintenance frequency depends on the number of users, environment and frequency of use.
Before Each Use
- Check that the water appears clean and clear.
- Remove leaves, insects and other debris.
- Check the water temperature before entering.
- Ensure steps and the surrounding area are secure and free from slipping hazards.
- If equipped with a chiller, confirm that water is circulating properly.
- Check that chiller air intake and exhaust areas are unobstructed.
- Never use the plunge if electrical connections, cords or plugs are damaged or sitting in water.
After Each Use / Day-to-Day Care
- Replace the cover to reduce contamination and debris.
- Remove visible debris from the water.
- Wipe the top edge and frequently touched surfaces as required.
- Keep the water circulation system operating according to the chiller manufacturer's instructions.
- Keep the chiller in a well-ventilated area, preferably shaded during hot weather for improved performance and longevity. Leisurecraft currently recommends continuous chiller operation under normal conditions, except where freezing-weather precautions are required.
Filter Maintenance
- Inspect the filter regularly, particularly with frequent use.
- Rinse reusable/pre-filter components as required.
- Replace the filter cartridge based on water condition, usage and chiller instructions.
- As a general Leisurecraft guideline, filters should be inspected approximately every 1–2 weeks and the cartridge replaced approximately every 1–3 months; for optimal performance, monthly replacement may be appropriate.
- If water flow decreases, inspect the filter, hoses and circulation lines for restrictions.
Water Maintenance
Water maintenance requirements vary depending on usage and whether a sanitizer system is being used.
- Monitor water clarity and cleanliness.
- Follow all instructions supplied with any sanitizer or water-treatment system.
- Never mix incompatible pool/spa chemicals.
- If the water becomes cloudy, develops an odour or cannot be restored easily, drain, clean and refill the plunge.
- For residential use, Leisurecraft's existing guidance recommends a complete drain and cleaning approximately monthly as a baseline, adjusted according to use.
When Draining and Refilling
- Turn off and disconnect the chiller as instructed.
- Drain the tub and chiller system.
- Remove and inspect or replace the filter.
- Clean the interior using warm water with mild soap or white vinegar and a soft sponge or cloth.
- Rinse thoroughly so no cleaning residue remains.
- Refill with fresh water.
- Restart the chiller following the proper start-up procedure.
This follows Leisurecraft's existing residential cold-plunge maintenance recommendations.
Cedar Exterior Care
For models with cedar exteriors:
- Clean periodically with mild soap and water.
- Allow the cedar to naturally weather silver-grey, or use a penetrating exterior cedar finish to maintain its original colour.
- Leisurecraft recommends Livos exterior wood finishes.
- Avoid high-pressure washing.
Winter / Freezing Weather
Freezing water can damage chillers, pumps, hoses and fittings.
When temperatures approach freezing:
- Follow the specific winter operating limits for your chiller model.
- If the plunge will not be operating, completely drain the tub, chiller, hoses and filters.
- Store the chiller in a temperature-controlled location when required.
- Never allow trapped water to freeze inside the chiller or plumbing.
Leisurecraft's published guidance specifically warns that freezing conditions require either appropriate operation or complete draining and protected storage of the chiller.
Once a Year
- Deep-clean the tub.
- Inspect all hoses, clamps, fittings and connections.
- Inspect the power cord and GFCI connection.
- Clean the chiller air intake/exhaust area.
- Inspect the cedar exterior and refinish if desired.
- Inspect steps and covers for wear.
- Replace worn filters, hoses or other components.
Avoid
- Entering with lotions, oils or excessive sunscreen when possible.
- Using abrasive cleaners.
- Using harsh chemicals on cedar.
- Blocking the chiller's ventilation.
- Allowing the chiller or plumbing to freeze.
- Operating the chiller without proper water flow.
